As one of the country’s most highly regarded architectural artists, John’s travels with his
sketchbook have taken him on many an artistic sojourn; to such diverse locations as France,
Spain, Germany, Russia, Ireland and the Americas. He has exhibited successfully in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Russia and his work can be found in public and private collections in many parts of the world.
A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, John has been a professional artist for over 25 years.
His particular affinity for urban and maritime subject matters, captured in pen, watercolour, oil and acrylic has evolved in a style that has been described as ‘free and refreshing, exciting and alive’. Tempered with the discipline and control of a skilled draughtsman, John is a master of artistic technique and fully understands how to capture the essence of a subject, be it a modest rural dwelling, a tranquil harbour setting or a bustling metropolis.
As well as his interest in art, John is a fine traditional musician playing fiddle, whistle, flute and (in the near future) bagpipes. Previous groups have included Battlefield Band and Kentigern and his lively entertaining band 'The Caulbums' performs at concerts and ceilidhs all over the world.
